What
is An Ezine?
The word "ezine" is short for "
e-lectronic
mag-a-zine or newsletter. Ezines are one of the best sources
of information in a specific field of interest. They are generally
free and can be delivered via email, or they can be web based.
They can be published daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly depending
on how often the publisher wishes to distribute the ezine.
Topics or subject content of ezines are the creation (or the
"work of art") of the publisher, so no ezine is
the same. Contents can include articles, jokes, quote of the
day, motivational or inspirational writings, updates, marketing
tips, and yes....classified ads!
Ezine Marketing....What Is It?
Ezine marketing is like "off line" advertising,
except that you are placing your ad(s) in ezines on the Internet.
Think of our database as a listing of local newspapers in
your area with all of the pertinent information you need to
place an ad.
Say you have a bicycle for sale and want to place an ad in
the local newspapers in your area. You would need to know
how much the ad is going to cost, how long your ad can be,
when it will be run, the ad deadline of getting your ad in,
how to make payment, etc.
In order to find out all of this information, you have to
pick up the phone and call these newspapers even before you
can place your ad.
Can you imagine what it would be like to find ezines on the
Internet that accept advertising, let alone getting all of
the pertinent information just to place your ad!
What is the Directory of Ezines?
The Directory of Ezines is a resource tool to assist you
in finding those ezines that best target your market...the
readers (subscribers) of the ezines.
Our service is finding those ezines that accept advertising
and gathering and compiling the information you need to place
your ad in ezines, saving you countless hours doing this on
your own. We save you time...and time saved is money earned.
Why Is Ezine Advertising So Powerful?
Ezine advertising is one of the most effective ways of
reaching a target audience. Hundreds, even thousands of publications
exist for every topic from Alchemy to Zoology. The Internet
has created a medium by which this information can be distributed
at a very low cost via Electronic Mail.
The readers of these ezines have voluntarily subscribed to
receive the ezine. They have an interest in the topic and
they already know ahead of time that there will be ads and
will be more relaxed and receptive to seeing your message.
Unlike the free online classified ad sites and banner advertising,
which are "hit and miss", your message can be placed
in the ezines that best target your market.
What Is A Target Market?
A target market are the subscribers of the ezines that
would be interested in your product or service. You can search
for your target market in the Directory of Ezines by using
our category drop down box which currently lists over 70 categories.
If you are marketing a vitamin, weight loss, or health product,
you would target your market by searching our database for
ezines in the health/fitness category. If you are selling
fishing lures, you probably wouldn't do too well in ezines
in the health/fitness category! You'd be better off searching
the "sports" category.
But what if you have a product or service that is universal
in appeal? How do you determine which ezines to place your
ad when "targeting" is so important?
Consider this example. You are marketing an all natural cat
or dog food. So you look for pet owner ezines, right? Probably.
But, what about all of those other categories of ezines?
Remember, the subscribers of those ezines do have a personal
life and chances are they have a Fluffy or Fido in the family!
Your ad in an "off beat" or unsuspected ezine would
likely catch their eye and Fluffy or Fido might just get some
new, healthy, natural food, because your ad stood out where
it wasn't expected!
Results From Ezine Advertising
The results that you experience will vary significantly.
Besides where you run your ads, response rates will depend
upon the particular opportunity or product being offered.
Another significant factor is how your ad is written. A poorly
written ad is deadly to getting results and usually a waste
of money. You could have the greatest thing since sliced bread,
but with poor ad copy and boring headlines, you will not get
the responses you want and need.
Do I need a huge budget?
Don't be swayed by a high subscriber base and low ad rates.
You need to target your ads to the people who would be interested
in what you have to say and stay within your allotted budget.
Just because has ezine has a large subscriber base, it doesn't
mean that you will get more responses or sales from your ad.
Bigger is not always better. Target your market and zero in
on those subscribers who have an interest in the category
that your product or service is tailored to.
If an ezine has 4,000 subscribers and it cost $20 to place
an ad, chances are you will get more response than the ezine
with 50,000 subscribers that cost the same or a bit more.
The 50,000 subscribers may not be at all interested in your
product or service. Those 4,000 subscribers that are your
target market will get you more responses.
If you are operating on a shoe-string budget, there are ezines
that accept free or bartered advertising. Plus, these ezines
are an excellent choice to "test" a new ad for effectiveness.
Cost of Ads
Ad rates can be anywhere from free up into the hundreds
per ad per issue. There is no set standard on the Internet
as to what publishers charge for their ad space.
What does my membership fee cover?
Your membership fee entitles you to unlimited access to
the information in the database for the period of time you
purchased.
As we have found these ezines that accept advertising and
gathered and compiled the information into our customized
searchable database, we charge a membership fee for this service...saving
you countless hours searching for this information on your
own.
Yes, there are now other ezine directories that offer a free
service, but remember with free, you get what you pay for.
We pride ourselves in keeping our database up-to-date which
requires time...hence the membership fee. This is how we make
our living.
I requested that my login information be e-mailed to me and
I received an error message telling me that my e-mail address
was not registered.
This could be due to:
-
You entered
the incorrect email address. In order for the database
to return your login information, you must use the same
email address you used when you placed your order.
OR
-
Your membership
expired.
OR
-
You
subscribed to our free ezine, the DOE Insider, and thought
that would give you access to the Directory of Ezines. To
gain access to the Directory you need to purchase a
membership.
How can the information I have to present benefit the members
using the Directory of Ezines?
You would NOT be placing your ad to my list of members....
you would be placing your ad in ezines...that what the Directory
of Ezines is....an online searchable database of ezines that
accept advertising.
The Directory of Ezines is a resource tool to assist you in
placing your ad in those ezines you select that would be your
target market.
All of the pertinent information that you would need to place
your ad is at your fingertips all in one resource tool...ie.,
ad rates, publication dates, ad deadlines, payment options,.
where to submit your ad, how to make your payment, circulation,
ad rules and lots more.
How do I place my ad in the Directory of Ezines?
You would not be placing your ad directly into the Directory
of Ezines.
The Directory of Ezines is a resource tool to assist you in
finding those ezines that target your market with all of the
pertinent information that you need in order to place your
ad in those ezines you select.
See the above Q & A for detailed explanation.
Why can't I download the Directory of Ezines?
Quite simply, so people do not "steal" my hard work
and give it away for free.
Why can't I print out the Directory of Ezines?
Due to prior misuse by some members, we no longer offer the
ability to print out the database...again a case of people
"stealing" my work and claiming it as there own
or giving it away for free.
As our database is updated several times a week, it really
would be a waste of time, paper and ink to print out information
that continually changes.
Why don't I see some of the ezines that I subscribe to
listed in your database?
I do NOT add ezines to the Directory of Ezines database. Publishers
must complete and submit a form which I personally edit before
it is added to the database.
I do invite publishers to list their ezines in our database,
but I do NOT just "add" publications.
Does the Directory of Ezines cover UK based ezines and
other countries besides the US?
Yes. You can use the advanced search function to search for
ezines by country. But you do need to keep in mind that when
searching by country, your results will be based on the country
of where the publisher resides....it is NOT where the subscribers
of the ezine are located.
How do I find ezines that accept articles?
With our advanced searched function, you can search for those
ezines that accept articles. You can even narrow your search
down by category and circulation so that your article is presented
to those publishers who feel that it would be of interest
to their readers.
How many ezines are listed?
Currently there is in excess of 867 ezines in our database,
but it does fluctuate.
Every month our publishers are sent a reminder that they are
listed in the Directory of Ezines and to update their listing.
Any emails that are undeliverable or if the listing is more
than 9 months to a year old and the publisher has not responded
to my request to update their listing, they are removed from
the database.
On a few rare occasions I have removed ezines from the database
after repeated complaints by our members about the same publisher...ie.,
the ad was not run, no response from the publisher after repeated
emails or phone calls.
Also, our members help me to keep our database current by
letting me know whenever they come across an ezine whose website
URL cannot be found or if they have emailed the publisher
and it bounces back to them. Normally this is a strong indication
that the publisher is no longer in business, but I do need
to check it out before deleting the ezine.
I do not remove ezines based on a members complaint that his
ad did not pull responses or sales. This is NOT the publishers
fault. Nine times out of the ten, it is the advertisers ad
copy or the ad was placed in an ezine that was not the target
market.
How often is the database updated?
Daily.
Can you do a mailing to all of the publishers in the database
for me?
No. I have not, do not and will not do a mailing to the publishers
listed in the Directory of Ezines. This is not the intent
of my having these publishers listed in my database to "sell"
a mailing to an advertiser promoting their latest and greatest
product or service.
The only emails sent to the publishers are from me in regards
to their listing in the Directory of Ezines.
Why am I not finding any ezines that would be my target
market?
It has been said that there are over 300,000 ezines/newsletters
on the Internet. The Directory of Ezines lists a very small
percentage of that total and NOT all ezines accept advertising.
The only ezines we list are those that accept advertising,
plus the publisher must submit his listing as I do NOT just
add ezines to the database.
How do I know that the publisher placed my ad in the ezine?
The best way is to subscribe to the ezine and check the issue
that the publisher said your ad was going to run in.
Is there a way to get a "sneak-peak" at your
database before I purchase my membership?
No. You would have to purchase a membership. We have a money
back guarantee if our service is not what you thought it would
be.
Can I upgrade my annual membership to a lifetime membership?
Yes, however you must do this within 3 months of your annual
membership purchase and pay the difference.
Are subscribers to the ezines doubled opt-in that are listed
in your database?
Some are, some are not. You should do your due diligence when
placing your ad and spending your hard earned money for an
ad by sending an email to the publisher and ask.
Why are all of the ezines that I have selected asking for
more money? I already paid my membership.
The membership fee that you paid is for my service of gathering
and compiling the information in our customized, searchable
database. This is how we make our living...selling information.
Some ezines have free ad space, while the majority charge
for their ad space, the same as off line newspapers.
How do I select ezines to place my ad?
First you need to narrow down your search to a specific topic
or subject matter...ie., category.
If you are selling an all natural cat or dog food, you probably
would not get a good response from an ad placed in a food/wine
ezine.
You need to place your ad in ezines that target the readers
of the publication that would have an interest in what you
are offering.
Once you select the categories, it is a matter of reading
the details of the ezines. If you are like most advertisers
you are working on a budget. Therefore, the cost of the ad
space will be a determining factor in whether you place your
ad in that publication.
What is a headline?
This is the first line of text of your ad ... this one line
of text needs to grab the readers attention.
What is text copy?
This is the part of your ad following the headline.
What is the difference between the sponsorship ad and a
classified ad?
A sponsor ad is normally displayed in the ezine first before
all other content. This is "prime real estate" and
does cost more than a classified ad.
Classified ads are generally group together in a section further
down in the ezine after the main content.
What is CPM?
Cost Per Thousand. This would be in relation to the number
of subscribers to the publication.
For example:
A readership (circulation) of 10,000 readers at .00/CPM would
cost .00 to place an ad.
What is the difference between the simple search function
and the advanced search function?
The simple search function allows for searching by category
and by circulation...of which can be done in one search function.
With the advanced search function you can perform multiple
searches all in step. For example, by category, by circulation,
free ads offered, is a discount offered, cost of ad space,
format (HTML, text, or website) and lots more.
You can even search for those ezines that accept articles by category
and by circulation.
With the advanced search function, you can even design how
your results will be presented by simply "clicking"
on the search results fields.
